CLASSES
Elizabeth Seyler is starting her Tango classes again. Every time she runs the class there are additions to the Tango community. There are also many opportunities to dance from Montreal to New York and locally in Burlington, Shelburne, Stowe and Brandon. New are three sessions of Zumba. Starting Tuesday,October 7th at 5:30, Friday, Oct 10th also at 5:30 and Saturday morning, Oct 11 at 8:30. Ditch the workout, join the PARTY! Zumba is a dance fitness program based on Latin and International rhythms. This class is so much fun, you'll want to keep the party going all night! Don't worry about "two left feet" or feeling out of shape. Bring your own style, feel the music, and do what you can. Looking for a challenge? We'll keep you moving and show you how to amp it up. Zumba is for everyone!
What to wear: your excercise togs or cool comfortable clothes you can move and sweat in, as well as shoes with good support. Sneakers are good, but dance sneakers (they have minimal tread and good shock absorption) are great. And don't forget your water! Each class is $7 (cash please :)

Learning the Art of Playback Theatre
Join us for an evening of Playback Theatre! Come for one, or for all 3 sessions. In these workshops we will play, awaken our senses, exercise ourselves as artists and humanitarians, practice compassionate listening, and learn the fundamentals of Playback Theatre. PT is an interactive, improvisational theatre form used to illuminate life and incite dialogue. In Playback theatre life stories are shared by audience members and then re-enacted spontaneously on stage by a team of actors and a musician. It is an educational and curative form of entertainment now practiced far and wide in over 50 countries. We will explore this art of improv theatre and discovering ourselves. This workshop is recommended for performers, teachers, educators, activists social workers, policy makers, Olympians and everyone else. Please wear loose clothing and bring water.

Vermont Playback Company was formed in 2001 and is based in Burlington Vermont. Over the years, we have performed in settings such as Festivals, nursing homes, art galleries, First Night, and living rooms. Themes have included Mothers, Love, War and Peace and stepping from one year into the next. We are available for presentations, workshops and performances. Vermont Playback is a member of the Vermont Council on the Arts and the International Playback Theatre Network. Sunday, October 26th - 7:30 - SOUND OFF: Combat Stories Revealed- Work in progress Berger has worked with a small group of actors with varying levels of experience to develop this performance piece which tells the stories of veterans. Using minimal sets and costuming, as well as a narrative voice, she shares the realities of military service with her audience with the hope of creating dialogue and advocating for social change. Berger plans to ultimately present the finished piece in community settings throughout Vermont, incorporating discussions about the cost of war at home, and creating video footage for education and awareness. A graduate of Burlington College with a focus in community based arts and social change, Berger works with the HomeBase Arts & Movement Program, teaching multimedia visual, performance, and textile arts classes to adults with developmental disabilities. She has also taught visual arts classes for VSA Arts of Vermont and assisted with the organization’s one-woman performance Crazy.Other performance work has included facilitating programs with the YMCA’s after school drama club and work with the Theatre of the Oppressed, the Theatre for Social Justice, Spielpalast Cabaret, Vincez (an adaptation of Robert Musil’s The Man Without Qualities), and Give Peace a Dance, among other projects. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ OTHER STUFF What About You? Caroline O'Connor has been playing music in various forms for over 20 years. Her main instrument is saxophone, and she also dabbles with piano, guitar, and voice. Many genres have influenced her playing, and it is difficult to place her in a specific musical category. Her passion and enthusiasm for music are evident whenever she performs, whether playing solo or with others.
Developed with the support of the Flynn Center’s New Art Space Assistance (N.A.S.A.) Grant, Jen Berger shares Sound Off: Combat Stories Revealed, a new
creative performance and documentary theater work that explores the stories of
veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Berger, who runs a campaign at
Burlington’s Peace & Justice Center that provides truth in military
recruitment/enlistment education to high school students and community members
statewide, incorporates her experiences working with veterans of the wars in
Iraq and Afghanistan in this work-in-progress showing. “Their powerful stories have angered, saddened, and inspired me in my work and life,” remarks Berger. “I have carried these stories with me and share them in my work to highlight the differences in what the media portrays what is going on overseas and what is happening from a soldier’s perspective.”
