Hi All,
Two long term projects have come up and require special attention.
First - We are enlarging our boards for the Vermont International Festival, the North End Studio and the parent organization the Vermont Performing Arts League. If we don't do this periodically we get stale. So, if you are interested in what we are doing and feel that you can contribute then you are welcome to join us. Read the letter below from April and I and give us a call or email or smoke signal or something.

Dear Friend of VPAL,
We are writing to you because of your connection to some part of the
Vermont Performing Arts League – the Vermont International Festival,
FolKids of Vermont, or our newest project, the North End Studio. Ben and
I see VPAL as our top priority now. Our goal is to bring all the parts
of the organization together in order to strengthen them individually
and to develop connections so that each part can support the others.
In the 30 years since we started VPAL, our basic principle has always
been the same – to create opportunities for people to understand and
appreciate other cultures through the enjoyment of their traditional
music, dance, crafts, and customs. We know that you share our belief
that bringing people together through the arts opens the door to many
other positive results, including lasting friendships, empathy,
awareness, and action for social change.
*We are in the process of creating a more formal structure for our
organization in order to bring in the ideas, talents, and experience we
need to allow our programs to improve and grow. We hope you will
consider joining us as a member of one (or more) of the following:*
* *VPAL Board of Directors: *The Board will meet approximately once
a month, and will consider the general operations of the
corporation, including organizational priorities, administration,
and finances. It will also provide overview for the individual
programs. We are looking for a diverse group of individuals, who
will bring a variety of perspectives and experiences to the table.
* *Festival Committee: *The three-day Vermont International Festival
is a complex and labor-intensive event, requiring some very
specific expertise. Our small but devoted committee needs to add
some new members, who will bring in fresh ideas, share the
workload, and learn the skills the current members have developed
over the years. Meetings will be scheduled as needed.
We will be holding an open meeting for each of these groups within the
next month. We hope you will attend one or both of these, so you can
decide if you’d like to accept our offer to join.
PLEASE RESPOND by email northendstudio@vpal-us.org or phone

, to let us know you have interest in attending. Then we will reply with some options for meeting times to make sure everyone can make it.
Thanks for considering making this commitment of your time and energy to the Vermont Performing Arts League.
Sincerely,
April Werner & Ben Bergstein

The second project involves providing a setting where young performers can develop their performing skills.
(click poster to enlarge)
The idea is to invite 3 similarly aged performers to produce 2- 15 minute sets for an intimate setting ( larger than your living room but smaller than a concert hall) so that they learn how to perform and then get a critique by someone with similar talents who has been in the field a while. Once we start to get interest we will group the performers by genre and set up dates. So, if you know kids who would benefit from this process or if you want to lend you opinion as a performer/mentor, let us know.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh yeah, there is actually a third project that I already mentioned in the previous post - the wood floor for the studio -
On June18-21 we will be installing the oak floor in the North End Studio and we can us as much skilled (and unskilled) volunteer labor as possible. We need staple cutters (the wood is used and needs to have the old staples trimmed), wood carriers, cheer leaders, wood cutters (on chop saw), nail gun operators, kibitsers, etc, etc. let us know if you have a few hours day or night. We have only four days to complete the project!
That's all for now.
See you soon, I hope.
Ben
