It''s amazing how the summer got by so fast that I didn't have a chance to talk about what we have been doing at the North End Studio. Although programmatically things were expectedly slow , only a few regular classes in yoga, tango and folk dance, we did have some interesting concerts and we did get the new wood floor installed. You can see the difference between the old floor and the new. The atmosphere is quite different.
This is the new oak floor
This is the original tile floor
I want to thank Recycle North for their good work in salvaging the oak floor and Bon Provenzano, Zhanna Gomanenko and Kevin Toohey (all tango dancers) for their part in construction and preparation for finishing the floor, Val Gillen, Cameron and Michaela George and April Werner for carting and sorting the wood when it came in, and Radjab Khayotov and Cameron George for applying the 6 coats of polyurethane. The floor is great for all the activities and classes we have now and will work very well for dance classes and yoga starting in the fall.

So, what about you? What do you want to see or do at the North End Studio?
This is not an idle question. I need to know what you want to see happen here,or, better yet, what you want to present here. The activities at the studio are, for the most part, generated by people who come here and see something they like and want to do something themselves. That is , they come to a class and want to present one themselves. They come to a performance and want to have their own performance. They come to a party and want to do their own, etc. The process is easy - just let me know what you want to do and we will see if the time is available to do it. We will discuss the realities of presenting to make sure we understand eachother in that regard. We book the dates. The cost is generally $20/hr. You keep the rest.
Youth Cabaret - I need your help!
I want to create an opportunity for young people to learn how to be good performers. However, to do this I need people to recommend young people for the cabaret. Any time I have 3 people or groups that have a similar performance genre, that is style of dance, music, song, drama, etc. we can set up a showcase and get some experts to watch and discuss the show. Are you out there? Let me know!
Other September events will be posted as they come up - and they sometimes do without much warning.
Stay Tuned!
Speaking about "stay tuned", stay tuned to my radio show with Rik Palieri on The Radiator,WOMM lp fm called "Fellow Travelers". We do a mix of old and new music, mainly folk, from all over the world and lots of talk and fun. We have live music from time to time as people come to town. You can listen live or on the web. 105.9 fm in Burlington (low power) or www.theradiator.org from 4-5 on Wednesdays.
