Walking the Path of the Shaman

Saturday, March 20th. 1-6pm. One professor and 4 Shamans invite you into the world of the mystic.
$7 Suggested donation for adults. $5 Students with college ID.  Free Admission - Children under 12. Proceeds benefit Vermont Performing Arts League.

Shamanism has been a part of societies for thousands of years, transcending written history. The practice is now seeing a resurgence of interest as people long for something more, something to balance the materialism that grips our everyday lives, something that touches the magic that is our soul. You are invited to learn more of the history and to listen to shamans speak of their calling. Become a part of this great event to benefit the Vermont Performing Arts League and the North End Studio, promoting and celebrating cultural diversity through performance art since 1978. Presented by RainWater Center and sponsored in part by Spirit Dancer Books and Gifts, Burlington VT.

The members of The Salt Wives were all born at very young ages, and spent the following years mastering the rudiments of human behavior. At some point, we learned to agitate air molecules in an agreeable manner. We would like you to give us money to do this.

Welcome To The Show is Absurdist Rock Cabaret. Whisper to wail singing accompanied by screaming accordion, junk yard razor blade guitar playing, cantankerous marimba, grooves that make your backside weep. Avi escorts you through a universe populated by religious fundamentalists who worship themselves, 10 foot monkeys in heels, and renegade criminal bankers. Sound familiar? Well it should, cause you live there.

Avi Fox-Rosen sings and guitars with Art Bailey on accordion, Chris Berry on drums, Benjy Fox-Rosen on bass, Jon Singer on marimba, xylophone and percussion. The record is GORGEOUSLY produced by Aaron Nevezie at the Bunker Studio, with sounds that will keep you guessing from track to track.

Moira Smiley & Friends concert

Singer-composer, leads Moira Smiley & VOCO, travels the world as a soloist and creates nw work for dance, theater and film. Her recent albums "blink", "rua", and "circle, square, diamond & flag" feature spare, vocally driven collections of warped traditionals and new song. She has sung with leading ensembles and artists around the world, including Paul Hillier's Theater of Voices, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, KITKA Vocal Ensemble and New World Symphony. Featured at Lincoln Center, UCLALive, Royal Festival Hall, and music festivals across the U.S. and Canada, Moira has received praise from Billboard to Gramophone. Praised for her musical depth and noted as a musical "shape-shifter", Moira premieres new art song, opera, and physical theater. She also explores the depths of early American, Irish and Balkan traditional song. She composes for vocal ensembles around the world - her song "Stand in that River" is performed by thousands of choral ensembles and singers of all stripes.

 MADDUB is a dubtronica band in Vermont - centered in the historic yet warped micro-metropolis of the state's capital, Montpelier. They employ some of the principles of 'Dub' Reggae bands of Jamaica in the 70's and mix them with contemporary electronic sound and cutting-edge rhythms... rhythms that cause involuntary movement in many humans. MADDUB was started as a radical, but necessary response to a precipitous decline in the levels of conscious dance music available to the Vermont region. Playing mostly original dance musixs, they mix genres and rhythms (and metaphors) like chefs beating egg whites - the harder and faster the better.
