The Powder Kegs w/The Feverbreakers
Saturday, April 24th. 8pm $6
The
Powder Kegs are a Philadelphia trio recently transplanted from New York City, consisting of songwriters Dan Maroti & Ryan Dieringer, and drummer Sam McDougle. Their genre-bending, minimalist pop/rock & roll sound calls to mind songsters like Elvis Costello or Paul Simon. Their pop ditties are made crooning and confessional, their love songs infused with subtle psychedelia. There's a notable influence of folk music in their sound - the band spent four years out of tehri sex year career as a Prairie Home Companion-lauded, street-performing, finger-pointing string band, a distinction which informs their new stripped-down pop explorations with a sense of folk nuance.
TPK released their debut LP, "You and Your Right Now", in 2008. It was recorded with Jeremy Backofen, producer of albums by The Felice Brothers, The Walkmen, Frightened Rabbit, & Mice Parade. On January 26th, they released their new E.P. "Empty Side,' which was produced by Philly's own (and best) Brian McTear (Mazarin, The A-sides, Espers) of Miner St. Recordings.
