Tabla Solo by Benjamin Stewart
Wednesday July 21, 6:00-7:00pm $5 suggested donation
This
tabla
recital, presented by Benjamin Stewart will be his first in Vermont.
The tabla is the primary percussion instrument in Hindustani classical music. Known for it's profound vocal quality, with deep modulating bass tones and high pitched treble, the tabla is one of the most evocative acoustic instruments in the world.
A tabla solo forms like a garland in which precise musical statements are strung together like flowers within a given rhythmic cycle. Though the tabla is a percussion instrument, its vocal quality and rhythmic subtleties make for a more melodic experience than any other drum.
For more information, contact Benjamin Stewart at 412.999.5019 or benjamin@tabla.org

We
are honored to have the staff of the new literary journal, The Salon, working
from our offices, and to house the Local Literature Library.
The Salon: A Journal of Poetry & Fiction, is pleased to
introduce the Local Literature Library into North End Studios. The goal of the
library is to make local authors and publications more visible and available to
the general public. We're always looking for donations, so if you'd like to
have a favorite book of yours in the library just bring it by the studio with a
note. Currently there are collections of poems by David Cavanagh, Tina Escaja,
Elizabeth Powell and many others, as well as Vermont periodicals such as Green
Mountains Review, Vermont Literary Review, Queen City Review, and others. Happy
reading!
