Friday November 5th, 2010: 5-8pm
Dawn O’Connell: Old North End Photographer
Dawn O’Connell is a self-taught photographer working in black and white and color in both 35mm SLR and the digital medium. Ms. O’Connell’s work focuses on man in nature and man-altered nature and cultural complexities in collision. Compositions inspired by street scenes, cemeteries, dump yards, well-cultivated gardens, and studio- style portraits exemplify inspirations in her portfolio. Her work focuses on the discarded, downcast, overlooked or unseen, forgotten, stigmatized, the enigmatic and the absurd---creating works of art at the juncture between photojournalism and fine art photography. O’Connell sees her work as a process of giving voice to others by documenting and photographing the events that surround us; as well as finding expressions for her unique vision of the world in all of its complexity—bringing forth the beauty in the chaos of everyday life.
Come celebrate Dawn’s work at her opening reception during first Friday, 5-8pm.
