and
Sunday, December 13th, 2:00 - Contemporary with Joe Shepard
Joe Shepard’s dance and theater education started at the young age of 8 dancing and singing his way through regional community theater productions, jazz and gymnastics classes, and whatever stage he could find in and around northern Vermont. He attended the Walnut Hill School for the Performing Arts in Natick MA for more formal training in ballet, jazz, modern, and theater. After high school and a short stint as a cabaret performer in San Francisco, he met up with former Merce Cunningham dancer Ann Sorvino in western MA and joined the Sorvino Dance Project. While in the small town of Northampton he was soon introduced to up and coming choreographer Sara Rabidoux and helped form the modern company Hoi Polloi, which soon relocated and settled in Boston. Hoi Polloi went on to have a successful 8 year run performing at venues and residences around the country such as The Joyce Theater, Jacobs Pillow, The Majestic Theater, and The Bates Dance Festival, as well as performances in London and Japan. In addition to Hoi Polloi Joe has also had the pleasure of working with the theater company The Gold Dust Orphans, such choreographers as Nicole Wolcott, Larry Keigwin and Sean Curran, and currently is a member of the eletro-rock band Heloise and the Savoir Faire. After 6 years in New York City Joe just recently moved back to Burlington where he plans to spend more time working on teaching, choreography, visual art, and music. He’s thrilled to have found North End Studio and excited to be teaching, dancing, and meeting other performers in the area.

One last thing for December - on the 12th at 9 p.m. Jen Berger will be presenting:
Equilibrium!
during the holiday season, 'we' (as in western culture) get full...
we get full of food, we get full of gifts, we get full of giving, we get full
of debt, we get full of consumerism, we get full of fullness in our hearts, we
get full of family, and we get full of depression. meanwhile, we forget more and remember more the other side of the picture.
thousands of people are living in hunger, poverty, need, sickness, war torn
countries/societies. in 'need'. these are two extremes that become more extreme.while this is somewhat of a generalization, i hope it gets the point across.we are also in the extremes of fullness and need in ourselves. all aspects of
our lives are intensified during these times.'we' as in ourselves, and 'we' as in the global community seek balance in
ourselves and in the world. the holidays, more than other times, it is
important. Equilibrium!
(Equilibrium is the condition of a system in which competing influences are
balanced) (The process of achieving equilibrium will only work if the changes happen
slowly, but for rapid changes it would throw the social system into chaos,
unless and until a new equilibrium can be reached)
Is a night to dance, sing, perform skits and poetry,
original music and other forms of performance art that display the nature of
the extremes of fullness and need, and the need for balance.
Content: global conflicts, community centered, personal
ideas that represent something on either or both sides of the extreme, and/or
the search for balance. Equilibrium!
Proceeds will go to organizations working on global issues
that are seeking balance, resolution, etc. no organization has been chosen yet,
recommendations are welcome.
Please submit ideas by November 21st. Submissions can be sent to:
